The Venetian Castle of Parga

One of the most iconic landmarks in the area, the Venetian Castle of Parga towers above the town and offers panoramic views of the Ionian Sea. Its original construction dates back to the 14th century by the Normans, and it was later fortified and rebuilt by the Venetians, Ottomans, French, and British. Since 1913, after the Balkan Wars, the castle has belonged to the Greek state.

From this point, you can admire the island of Panagia, where a celebratory mass is held every year on August 15th. Interestingly, this island was Aristotle Onassis’ first attempt at buying an island before he acquired Skorpios in Lefkada.

Alternatively, for a relaxed experience, hop on Parga’s tourist train, which offers a delightful ride to Ali Pasha Castle in Anthousa, showcasing scenic views along the way.

Paragaea – The Olive Oil Museum

Located in the heart of Parga, Paragaea Museum takes you through the tradition of olive oil production. The tour includes demonstrations of old production equipment, explanations of the process, and a tasting session at the end. The museum also hosts cooking and wine tasting workshops.

Cruises to Paxos & Antipaxos

From Parga’s port, boats depart daily for day trips to Paxos and Antipaxos. The first stop is Antipaxos, where you can swim in the exotic, crystal-clear waters and explore the stunning sea caves. The tour then continues to the charming capital of Paxos, Gaios.

Beaches of Parga

Parga is famous for its stunning beaches, catering to all preferences:

  • Organized beaches: Valtos, Lichnos, Sarakiniko – with umbrellas, sunbeds, and beach bars.
  • Unorganized beaches: Ai Giannakis, Alonaki, Skala – perfect for those seeking peace and a connection with nature.

From the balcony of MONALIA, you can enjoy views of Lichnos Beach. To the east lies the famed Aphrodite’s Cave, where, according to mythology, the goddess used to swim. You can reach it by canoe or SUP, giving you a chance to explore the turquoise waters up close.

Acheron River and Mythical Routes

Just a short drive from Parga, in the Glyki area, flows the mythical Acheron River, known in ancient times as the “Gate to the Underworld.” According to Greek mythology, Hermes escorted the souls of the dead here to be handed over to Charon.

Today, the Acheron offers a variety of activities:

  • Hiking along or even through its crystal-clear waters
  • Extreme sports like rafting, kayaking, zip-lining, and horseback riding
  • Visiting the Necromanteion of Acheron in the village of Mesopotamos, one of the most important archaeological sites in the region

Exploring Preveza

About 50 km from Parga, Preveza is a coastal town with a charming marina and interesting sights:

  • Louros Springs
  • Lake Ziros
  • Roman Aqueduct

Preveza is also famous for its excellent seafood, making it a culinary destination well worth a visit.
